Have you given Jesus room in your life?

Even more, those who hear the word of God and keep it are blessed!” (Luke 11:28, HCSB)

The familiar Christmas carol by Emily Elliott contains a power prayer in the chorus:

Oh, come to my heart, Lord Jesus; there is room in my heart for Thee.

Is that your prayer? Have you seriously made room in your heart for Jesus? Our world is continually competing for lordship in our lives. We must continually make sure that we are giving Jesus the proper place. I’ve heard a familiar saying all of my life that says, “If He’s not Lord of ALL, He’s not Lord at all!” This is a powerful statement, if you stop and really think about it.

Is He Lord of your money and possessions?

What about your God-given talents, are you using them for His glory?

What about your time? It is so easy to waste time on things that will not matter at all in eternity. I struggle with this continuously. The many different sources of technology in our society have provided many opportunities for us to use a lot of time and accomplish very little.

In Luke 11:28, Jesus tells us that it is one thing to hear God’s Word and a totally different thing to actually keep God’s Word. Are you just a hearer, or are you a hearer and a keeper of God’s Word?

I like the way this verse is paraphrased in The Living Bible… “But even more blessed are all who hear the Word of God and put it into practice.”

My prayer for 2008 is that I will listen more closely to the voice of God…I want to make sure He has room in my heart!
