“Use every part of your body to give glory…to God”

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michael Wright @ 1:47 pm

Last night as part of my personal devotions, I read this passage of scripture from The Living Bible:

“But if you give yourself to the Lord, you and Christ are joined together as one person. That is why I say to run from sex sin. No other sin affects the body as this one does. When you sin this sin it is against your own body. Haven’t you yet learned that your body is the home of the Holy Spirit God gave you, and that he lives within you? Your own body does not belong to you. For God has bought you with a great price. So use every part of your body to give glory back to God, because he owns it” I Corinthians 6:17-20.

It is near the end of another year! My, how time flies…hard to believe that 2007 is ending and that we are starting another year. In the “accounting world” in which I work, many organizations will be doing a “year-end inventory.” The purpose of this inventory is to determine the inventory that is on hand and compare it with the accounting records.

Spiritually, I like to ask the Lord to do a year-end inventory of my life. The great Psalmist David prayed and asked God to put him on trial…he said “cross examine me…test my motives and my heart” (Psalm 26:2, NLT). I don’t think this is a bad idea. Satan is trying his very best to discourage each one of us and to get us off the path that leads to heaven. Some little foxes (Song of Solomon 2:15) could have very easily slipped into our lives during the past year. I don’t know about you, but I would certainly rather know that something is wrong now rather than not finding something out until I stand before God on judgment day.

I find that Satan uses so many different means for trying to get junk into my life.  The media…and I mean every kind…is saturated with things designed to deter me from the pathway to heaven.  I’m very thankful that God has given me a sensitive conscience…my conscience serves as a very good guide and works to keep me from evil.

I can truthfully say that I’ve tried my best in 2007 to use my body for the glory of God.  However, like most things in life there is always room for improvement.  My prayer as I move into 2008 is that I can do even more for Christ and for the advancement of His Kingdom.  Bill and Gloria Gaither penned some wonderful words…that I want to make my prayer for this new year:

I’m going to live the way He wants me to live.

I’m going to give until there’s just no more to give.

I’m going to love, love ’til there’s just no more love.

I could never, never out love the Lord!
