Am I being a good representative of the Lord Jesus?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michael Wright @ 4:46 pm

This week in my devotions I’ve been studying Colossians 3. Wow! This is a powerful chapter…so much practical advice given to those who truly want to follow Christ and be a sanctified (or set apart) individual! Today I received the story below as told by Joe Stowell, it so perfectly goes along with Paul’s instructions, given to us in Colossians.

““Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. You must make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. And the most important piece of clothing you must wear is love. Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony. And whatever you do or say, let it be as a representative of the Lord Jesus, all the while giving thanks through him to God the Father.” (Colossians 3:12-14, 17 – NLT)

Story shared by Joe Stowell:

A driver did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection. The tailgating woman behind him went ballistic, pounding on her horn and screaming in frustration as she missed her chance to drive through the intersection with him.

Still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed and placed in a cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects.

He said, “I’m awfully sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, gesturing to the guy in front of you, and cursing a blue streak at him. I noticed the “Choose Life” license plate holder, the “What Would Jesus Do?” bumper sticker, the “Follow me to Sunday School” bumper sticker and the chrome plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk.

“Naturally, I assumed you had stolen the car.”

  1. Bro. Wright,

Excellent blog entry. I think I’ll print it off and include it as part of our dorm devotions with the college students tonight.

    Thank you,
    Bro Frausto

  3. Our upcoming WOW meeting will be about what we wear. I am wondering if I may “borrow” the illustration you shared as it would tie in nicely with what I wish to grt across to the ladies.
